Not In My House (A Basketball Podcast)
We have a strong love for basketball and the doors that it can open outside of the game itself. We love to give current and former players, coaches, artists, and historians their recognition and the platform they deserve to tell their story and teach our listeners about the game and applying lessons we learn from hoops to everyday life. We don't care for hot takes, we don't care for debates but we do care about giving back to the game and giving people the recognition they deserve for their hard work, dedication, their experiences and their knowledge to give our listeners and ourselves a better understanding of the game, the business, and life beyond hoops. We also like to have have fun! Any Questions? Suggestions? You can email us at Notinmyhousepodcast@gmail.com Much Love to you all! Twitter - @NOTINMYHOUSEpc Instagram- @not_in_my_house_podcast
Not In My House (A Basketball Podcast)
Eddie Robinson: A Kid From Flint, MI Who Made It (Former NBA Player)
He’s a real one and always keeps it 100. Eddie Robinson is on the Podcast today and we couldn’t be any more excited about it. He’s more than just a kid from Flint Michigan, he’s one of the few who made it out when the odds were very much against him. After dropping out of the 9th grade, without a single game of High School basketball under his belt, Robinson damn near taught himself everything he knew about the game of basketball. He earned his GED and took the Junior College route where it didn’t take long for NBA scouts to notice the potential of this versatile 6’8’’ High-Flyer. You will learn quickly in this episode that nothing came easy for E-Rob. After going undrafted out of Junior College, Robinson was only eligible to play at the Division II College level where he hung 28 a game on those poor kids. You may be thinking to yourself right now, that you have never heard of anybody taking this route to the NBA, and thats because nobody else ever has and you’re just reading the Cliff Notes of his incredible story in this summary.
Robinson went on to play 5 years in the NBA where he was a key contributor to an electric Charlotte Hornets team that was creating a lot of buzz around the league at the time. He also played three seasons with a young Chicago Bulls squad that was trying to figure out the post-Jordan era. His athletic ability and rim-rocking dunks left fans in awe and opponents on the wrong side of a highlight or poster. We learn all about the grind and the obstacles Robinson had to overcome to get to the league, and it is beyond impressive. Head-scratching circumstances may have unexplainably cut his NBA career a few years short, but we are grateful that Robinson doesn’t hold back at all and teaches us more about the politics and business side of the NBA. Eddie had a few other professional stops in the NBA D-League, the NBL of Canada, and even the Big3… and don’t you worry, we learn a secret or two about the Big3.
We had such a great time with Eddie Robinson and I know that this episode will touch you in many different ways. We had a lot of laughs and a few emotional moments learning more about the grind to get out of Flint MI, the Junior College and Division II route, his ground breaking journey to the league, the passing of Bobby Phills, his experience with Jerry Krause and John Paxson, his bizarre exit from the league, life after basketball, and so much more. We can’t thank Eddie Robinson enough for how open, funny, informative, inspiring, and pleasant he was. There is no story like his and honestly there is simply just nobody like Eddie Robinson.
Much Respect! Thanks again Eddie Robinson.
Enjoy!
-Also, special thanks to our guest Co-Host Chad for filling in for Eric today. Pleasure having you on!
