We have a strong love for basketball and the doors that it can open outside of the game itself. We love to give current and former players, coaches, artists, and historians their recognition and the platform they deserve to tell their story and teach our listeners about the game and applying lessons we learn from hoops to everyday life. We don't care for hot takes, we don't care for debates but we do care about giving back to the game and giving people the recognition they deserve for their hard work, dedication, their experiences and their knowledge to give our listeners and ourselves a better understanding of the game, the business, and life beyond hoops. Stephen Bardo: Flying Illini Legend, NBA Player & Broadcaster
We have another member from that amazing Flying Illini team! Stephen Bardo is our guest today and believe us when we say it’s a GOOD one! Stephen shares his hoop journey from beginning to end in an episode filled with awesome stories.
Stephen Bardo starred at Carbondale High School. He went on to be the starting point guard for the Flying Illini where he helped lead his team to a memorable Final Four. He was the Big10 Defensive Player of the Year and later selected 41st overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1990 NBA Draft. He had a successful career in the NBA, CBA, and Overseas and also found success off the court as a broadcaster earning himself an Emmy award. This episode includes great stories about Coach Lou Henson, Kendall Gill, Chris Jackson (Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf), Dominique Wilkins, Draft night, experiences overseas, journey into broadcasting, Bardo’s Breakdown and MUCH more!
